This is an early headlight bucket. Note the square edges. In 1971 the plexiglass head lights were replaced with pop-up headlights. The painted trim was intended to mimic the perspex cover. The idea was abandoned after 1971. Note that the headlight bucket is painted the same color as the painted trim.
